Overview


Management of manufacturing resources is a central element of  production companies. With higher demands in time, quality and costs make flexibility a rising factor of success. While product quantities decrease, varieties and therefore the complexity of resource management increase.  Static centralized systems tend to be very complex under these conditions.  Project D1 "smart factory" shows decentralized, dynamic structures that are designed to reduce down time risks based on the Nexus platform. These systems hold the advantages of distributed intelligence and therefore are able to compensate for failures in single cells. Using the different functionalities of the environmental model  the complexity of the processes are reduced to a minimum which makes the tool management together with a modular build user friendly and easy to customize. Especially location, sensor integration, communication and geometric modeling services of the production environment are of special interest. According to these points the goal of this project is a decentralization of resource management using intelligent tool systems with integrated data beacons as well as communication semantics between the mobile and immobile ressources.  This way an industrial system is created which combines high flexibility and low complexity. Therefore an optimization of time, quality and cost factors is achieved.
